Obituary | Immigrated to America in 1866 with wife Wilhelmina Tshautschnerand their children. They first setttled in Ripon, WI, but after a few years they moved to the Eau Claire area. There is a record of them purchasing land in Eau Claire County in 1875. Settled in the Hay Creek area (Dimond Valley, township of Bridge Creek). Chrisop was known as an ardent Democrat. He prized the franchise so much that when he was 88 he walked a distance of 8 miles one way to vote in Augusta. The date of his death is listed as both 1902 and 1909.
The Zank Brothers and their kin built the lovely white church, St.Johns of Hay Creek. St. Johns called a resident pastor and in later years, 1940...1950's were served by a pastor from another community. During vacancies, J.M. Zank would read sermons for the congregation. A small cemetary remains at the site of the church although the church is gone. The area is occupied by the Amish people today, 1990s... and they wosrhip in their homes. | Spouses |
